Force Unleashed Producer Haden Blackman Resigns…

Well, this is an unexpected turn of events. As everyone probably already knows by now (I’m a little late posting this), Force Unleashed producer Haden Blackman has resigned from LucasArts.. why you ask yourselves? Well, apparently he felt a disturbance in the force and that it is the best time for him to move on. They say that this will have no effect on The Force Unleashed 2′s release.

Things have been really slow with any Battlefront 3 news as well, hence the lack of posts here. I do hate not posting, so if anyone has any tidbits or anything that is newsworthy, feel free to drop me a line: admin@battlefront3.net

“The executive producer and writer of the Force Unleashed videogame series, Haden Blackman, resigned from LucasArts today after spending 13 years with the studio, the company confirmed to IGN.

Blackman has been credited with working on several titles over the years, including the Force Unleashed I and II, Star Wars: Galaxies, and Star Wars: Force Commander. He also helped write and produce a number of Star Wars books and comics.

“I’ve had a fantastic time working with the team at Lucasfilm and am really grateful for their ongoing support,” Blackman said in a statement.

“While the decision to leave LucasArts did not happen overnight or come easily, I really feel that now is the best time for me to move on and explore new creative challenges and I look forward to the next phase of my career.”

The Force Unleashed II is currently set for release this October. A LucasArts representative said Blackman’s departure will not affect the game’s development.”

Spark Unlimited’s Secret Game…. Battlefront 3?

So there hasn’t been much lately in the way of news for Battlefront 3. E3 came up short, as well as Comic-Con… what’s next? Well I have some faith that it may be announced at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration V, which takes place August 12 – 15, 2010.

There was a rumor, well not so much a rumor as speculation, that Spark Unlimited may be doing Battlefront 3. This rumor sparked from this post by NowGamer.com:

“The job ad on Gamasutra requires “a senior gameplay engineer for a 3rd Person Action/Adventure title in a high-profile science fiction franchise currently in development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC markets.”

The successful candidate will also “be tasked with functionality goals to realize the vision for a high profile next-generation property currently in prototype development.” The listing also mentions the Unreal 3 engine.

“Spark requires a senior gameplay engineer”

If this didn’t already sound a lot like the Kinect Star Wars title pre-visualised and shown at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, online super-sleuth Superannuation spotted the LinkedIn profile of Spark employee John Lawrie who lists an “unannounced third person sword fighting game (well known IP, Xbox 360, PS3)” on his CV.”

Anyway, this sparked my curiosity a little bit so I decided to send off an email to Spark Unlimited. I honestly didn’t expect a response, but I did get one back this evening.

Their response was:

“We are the solely the developers of the games. The publishers are the owners of said properties. As such, it is their prerogative as to when to announce a game. I can tell you it is generally a year after we start before a project is announced to the public. So, the game for which are hiring won’t be announce for some time… maybe Comic-Con 2011.

Thanks for inquiring. Sorry we can’t divulge what we are working on.”

So even if it is our beloved Battlefront 3, it looks like we’ll still be waiting awhile before it’s even announced.

A New Hope: Star Wars Celebration 2010

Well, yet another E3 has come and gone and we are still left with just empty, shallow rumors of our beloved Battlefront 3. I almost gave up hope there, but I think that the faithful members from our community forum has brought my faith back that we will still yet, get our Battlefront 3.

Check out this excerpt from our newest forum Administrator Scott:

“Hello patrons of Battlefront3.net/forums! Scott here just reminding you that I am always right and because of that wondrous gift I will now reveal to exactly what’s happening with our dearest child, Battlefront 3.

There have been rumours of the ol’ girl for quite some time now with the biggest spark being the infamous “leaked” video of off-screen footage. So the game was planned that is obvious. Would Lucas Arts really just abandon it even when many fans still demand it? No they would not. So based on this, the game is in production! But let’s keep following the trail…

The game has had numerous leaked screenshots over the past year or so and again this is obvious. A good chunk of the screenshots though is concept which is a nail in the coffin for this one. Based on this, the game is not in production. Why? Because for one, I said so, secondly, concept is early enough that scrapping it wouldn’t mean much of a loss. The leaked footage says otherwise about the progress but I’m going by the concept.

Battlefront 3 has accidently revealed itself to us more than Paris Hilton but like Paris Hilton, Battlefront 3’s rich parents try to deny her accidence. Seriously though, there have been numerous pop-ups from Amazon and GameStop. I personally think this is really the rumour that should be the most pondered because of its significance. GameStop and Amazon don’t just have some guy going and typing in clumsily the new products they are selling. Nor is it easy to “accidently” place an item for sale. I mean you’d have to type in all the details and post it so an accident it is not. Based on this is Battlefront 3 in production. Hell ya it is.

The final rumour I’m going to analyze is the GameSpy servers. This one is probably still fresh in your minds so I most likely don’t have to explain it. I do think this helps the case because of the formality they are written in. It may be small but if this were some punk kid trying to funny then you probably would have called the servers something like battlefront 3 pwn owner server. Instead of that it was written in a formal way of Battlefront 3 (Console Name). I believe this to be real and think it again helps our case. So yes, based on this I do believe it is in production.

That’s 3/4 saying in production!”

Microsofts “Kinect” Launch Features New Star Wars Title?

Well, we on the eve of this years E3 event where many of us are eagerly awaiting whether or not LucasArts will finally announce Battlefront 3. In the meantime, Kotaku.com is reporting that Microsoft’s “Project Natal” or now know as “Kinect” will be hooking up with LucasArts for a unannounced Star Wars title.
Could this possibly be our long awaiting Battlefront 3? I highly doubt it, but one never know and the video demo looks pretty damn cool.

“Perhaps the best “game” we saw yesterday at Microsoft’s Kinect launch event was a Star Wars title. Why? Why don’t you take a look yourself.

Take all this with a sizable grain of salt, of course, as you always should with on-stage demonstrations, but anyone that watches this and isn’t at least a little excited (at the potential, if not the stilted performance from this obviously-not-actually-playing-the-game actor) is either lying or is a cold, barren husk of a person.

Microsofts Kinect will be available on November 4th, 2010.

E3 2010! Who’s ready for.. Surprise? or Disappointment?

Well, it’s been too long since my last post, so I thought I would do a “Pre-E3″ post. There is a lot of hype about this years E3 as LucasArts has some pretty big games coming out. We still haven’t heard any hints on whether or not there will be a Battlefront announcement, but in my opinion, I don’t think that we should hold our breaths for it, although I will most definitely not give up hope!

Thanks to a great find by a member of the LucasArts official forums (zach_tx1), we now have the E3 list for LucasArts! GamingTarget.com reports the following via the LucasArts Twitter page:

Someone at LucasArts has used the company’s Twitter account to unveil their lineup for this year’s E3 Expo (which runs from June 15-17). A trio of games will surely be on hand, with more promised.

The Twitter list included the following games:

# Monkey Island 2: Special Edition (iPhone, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
# Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (DS, PC, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360)
# Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)
# AND MORE!

The “more” no doubt refers to Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, which is in development for the DS, PC, PS3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360 for release this year. There’s also a possibility that LucasArts will finally announce Star Wars: Battlefront III, but as of right now that’s just a rumor.

I do like the additions “AND MORE” factor, it definitely leaves some hope.

Gamespy Lists Battlefront 3 in their Server Lobby…

I thought that this was quite interesting and a big thanks to my fellow commenter for bring this to our attention. Apparently Gamespy.com has listed Battlefront 3 in their game lobby.

I have a program called GsList that allows me to see the servers for every game run by GameSpy so I can basically see the lobbies for them. Like I used it to see what servers were online and how many players were in them for SWBF2.
I decided to check it out today and to my surprise I find this:

When I click on them no servers show up, but those lobbies were not there a month ago.
This looks increadibly promising.

Oh BTW the reason there is no Xbox stuff on there is because Microsoft doesn’t allow GameSpy to host lobbies for games over Live. They do it themselves.

This is definitely interesting… i’ll be interested to hear all of your opinions. I know that the software program isn’t put out by GameSpy, so who know’s it could most certainly be fake.

Star Wars: Battlefront 3 at E3? (E3 Rumor List)

So, our site got hacked again last night. Fortunately, I learned from the last time it happened and was very easily able to correct the situation with virtually minimal losses.

Anyway, one of our commenters has posted an interesting link to some E3 lists which show some of the games that will be appearing at this years E3. Natually, this is not confirmed, nor can I provide any authenticity to these lists, so if I were you, I wouldn’t believe in these too much.

Check out the lists below:

Neogaf, always a good place for video game rumours. Take a look at these lists, for example, that were posted last night; according to the person who uploaded them, they are lists over all the games that are going to be shown at E3 this year. How about Mass Effect for Playstation 3, a reveal of Elder Scrolls V and Killer Instinct 3?

Or Final Fantasy VII HD. Who doesn’t want to play Final Fantasy VII HD? Or Ninja Gaiden: Chronicles? I think we better take this with a grain (or huge mountain) of salt considering the source. But rumours are always fun, no?

President of LucasArts, Darrell Rodriguez Resigns Today

Well, this isn’t Battlefront news, but it is something that is quite unexpected and interesting. Today, according to IGN.com, the President of LucasArts, Darrell Rodriguez has officially resigned. Reasons for his resignation are still unknown, but maybe he realized that not releasing Battlefront 3 was the biggest mistake ever

LucasArts has confirmed reports that president Darrell Rodriguez has resigned from the company today. A reason for his departure was not provided, however.

“Darrell Rodriguez has resigned and we have initiated a search for a new leader,” the company said in a statement given to IGN. “Jerry Bowerman – a member of the Lucasfilm Board of Directors and a games industry veteran – will be stepping in to lead the LucasArts executive team during this transition. Lucasfilm remains fully committed to making great games and we continue to invest in our business.”

An unconfirmed report from Kotaku notes that several members of Rodriguez’s executive team have also left LucasArts. It’s believed these moves will have no effect on the titles currently in development. Rodriguez was named president of LucasArts in April 2008. Prior to joining the company, Rodriguez served as the COO of EA Los Angeles.

LucasArts recently announced the release date for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, the company’s most anticipated title of the year. The game will ship on October 26.

Battlefront: Online Still in Development with Slant Six Games?

Whew! Finally, a little bit of news. It’s been super quiet lately on the Star Wars Battlefront, it seems that a lot of people have lost faith that the game is officially dead and will never come out… well not me! I’m going to continue to cover the news and rumors as always because i’m confident we’ll get our Battlefront some day.

Anyway, on the news. According to Connected Consoles, Battlefront Online may be still in development with Slant Six Games, despite the rumors that the game has been scrapped.

Check out what they have to say and it is convincing!

There have been whispers over the past few months revolving around a possible Star Wars Battlefront Online title from SOCOM: Confrontation developer Slant Six, along with the help of LucasArts. On the other hand, we’ve since seen reports that the game may have been canned due to staff layoffs.

Now though, we’ve noticed a new job listing from the studio which could hint at project development continuing. Searching for a new lead designer – which also points to development being started again from scratch – the listing states:

“Slant Six Games is seeking a Lead Designer to be the creative drive behind the making of one of the most exciting AAA franchise console action titles in the industry.”

Of course, this isn’t solid proof that the game is in-fact Battlefront Online, so take it lightly. However, it is a AAA title, so we’re happy.

More Battlefront unpleasant news: Battlefront Online Binned

Well, our hopes of ever getting a new Battlefront game are diminished even further once again. Kotaku is reporting that the Battlefront Online rumor has been canned already! Even i’m starting to get discouraged… I wish that they would just give us what we all want.

Bad news, Battlefront fans: sources tell us a new entry in the series, in development at SOCOM: Confrontation developers Slant Six, has been canned, and a number of staff at the studio laid off as a result.

Slant Six managing director Brian Thalken told GameSpot “Our current project needs do not align with our current staffing levels”, and confirmed that an undisclosed number of developers had been “temporarily” laid off, in the hopes that they can be re-hired once the studio’s workload is able to support them.

The changes in “project needs” prompting the layoffs are, according to sources close to the studio, the result of Battlefront Online being cancelled by publisher Lucasarts. Apparently Lucasarts has a “stacked 2011 schedule” when it comes to Star Wars games, and wanted Battlefront Online out in 2010 to avoid this crunch. When it became clear last month that the game wasn’t going to make a 2010 release, Lucasarts put the project “on ice”.

So, the game comes and goes without us even getting an official look at it. A pity, but then since so many of you were cautious at the choice of developer for the game, it may not be such a bad thing after all.
