*UPDATE* As you all probably know by now, this is not Battlefront 3. Turns out to be XCOM: Enemy Unknown.. not too sure why they were saying everyone was going to be so excited for this one…

Happy New Year my fellow Battlefrontians!! I hope that you all had a wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year! What a great way to start off the new year, by having a fresh new rumor!

I would also like to take the time to announce our new partnership with Tuggie Game Reviews!, be sure to check out all of their great videos! I will be announcing the details of our partnership in the next post.

So… it appears that rumors are flying around the web in full throttle about GameInformer possibly revealing Battlefront 3 this month! This first site (sent in by Quentin Karn – thanks!) StickSkills.com seems to believe that it is possible that GameInformer is getting ready to pop the huge announcement of Battlefront 3.

We have known for awhile that Spark Unlimited is most likely to be the ones that are currently developing Battlefront 3 and this post by GameInformer seems to think that it may be possible also.

The evidence is pretty thin, but the twitter population seems convinced.

There are only two real pieces of evidence that have lead people to believe that Spark Unlimited is working on Star Wars: Battlefront 3. One, on its website Spark Unlimited lists in its job section that, “We are in production on an unannounced high-profile, popular game sequel for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC release.” The other piece of evidence, is that it simply isn’t flat out denying that Battlefront 3 is the title it is working on, on twitter. Every inquiry is met with a, “you’ll have ask Lucas Arts about its franchises, we’re just a developer, not publisher,” response.

It’s not much to go on, but it’s possible.

Spark Unlimited only has a few games under its belt with Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, and Legendary. It seems more likely that they could be working on a new Call of Duty having experience in the franchise already, but twitter seems to think otherwise. We will know more next year when official announcements start rolling out.

They are correct at the moment.. as we still do not have any concrete evidence that Battlefront 3 is in development, but what makes it more possible is the fact that no one is denying or dismissing these rumors as they are surfacing

Lets hear your thoughts!

Thanks to everyone for all of your emails!! Keep them coming!

Soooo.. my Battlefrontians, as I’m sure that you have all been reading, it seems that Spark Unlimited may have been tweeting some very interesting references.. Spark still hasn’t, and probably will not leak any information about this super secret game that they are currently working on… But instead, could they be giving some subtle hints on what they are actually working on?

For example:

Spark tweets

This obviously spews Star Wars and to me this is a huge tease!

The other reference is a little more vague and could probably be passed off as a coincidence, but none the less it is definitely something…

Spark tweets

“Best on all fronts= BesT on aLL FRONTs= BTTLFRONT” (thanks Kal Skirata)

You can take these references any way you wish, but I definitely find them suspicious!

Thanks everyone for the heads up and I will enjoy hearing your opinions!

I hope all is well with all you Battlefrontians! It’s been a long, long time since my last post so I figured I would take the time tonight to do a quick post with a few updates. This is probably the longest drought for no news in a very long time… If Spark Unlimited is making Battlefront 3, then they are doing one hell of a job of keeping it secret and they deserve a round of applause for it.

To the news.. well.. more like information.. LucasArts have renewed their domain, starwarsbattlefront3.com until October 19, 2013. This, in my opinion, is great news.. at least it will keep our hopes up for at least another 2 years!

It’s that time again as well where the buzz for the 2011 VGA’s starts stirring, and whether you like it or not, they are fast approaching! Not much has been announced yet, but we will be definitely keeping tabs on any tidbits!

The Spike Video Game Awards 2011 will air on December 10, 2011

News has been pretty dry around here lately, so there’s not a whole lot to report on. A great spot by LucasArts board member RED LEADER 3000, shows that one of this jobs (Multi-player Front-End Engineer) requirements is to have experience with “Gamespy Servers”…

“Experience with online game service APIs, particularly Xbox Live, Sony NP, GameSpy, and Games for Windows Live.”

Now, we all remember the big Gamespy find quite some time ago that revealed that GameSpy had Battlefront 3 listed on their servers and as far as I know they are still there.. Can someone confirm this for me?

This obviously doesn’t necessarly prove anything, but it does help solidify our belief that Spark Unlimited’s super secret project is Battlefront 3.

This question was also recently posted on Spark Unlimited’s site:

QUESTION: Can you guys inform me if your project will support gamespy as a booth for online gameplay? Please dont tell me that the answer has to come from the publisher because the question doesnt reveal or expose anything what youre working on. Thanks, James

ANSWER: I cannot release any details about the project which is not already revealed on the website. Such middleware licensing relationships are amno for the marketing and PR folks. You will have to wait for the publisher announcements of such details. From my experiences, I tend to see publishers rollout out such tidbits of information month by month to build awareness and anticipation of a game prior to release. I can’t blow a hole in the publisher’s marketing plans by telling you now.

Hmmm… suspicious? Lets hear your thoughts and opinions!

*UPDATE*

Adrian:

“I tend to see publishers rollout out such tidbits of information month by month to build awareness and anticipation of a game prior to release”

That is excactly what we have seen with the events of gamespy servers. And yes, the gamespy servers is still online, alive and well! They have gamekeys, that is almost like the game is 100% real.

Thanks for confirming!

Thanks to James for asking the question and RED LEADER 3000 for the great spot.

LucasArts has posted a new job advertisment for a Gameplay Engineer (For an Open-World RPG)! Game Informer has a sneaky suspicion that it may Knights of the Old Republic 3! This is kind of exciting.. even though it is probably not Battlefront 3, a Knights of the Old Republic 3 would kick some serious ass.

From Game Informer:

“Could LucasArts finally be delivering the single-player sequel to the Knights of the Old Republic so many Star Wars fans have been clamoring for?

The two Knights of the Old Republic games left some narrative threads dangling and many questions unanswered. Most importantly, what was the unknown threat that Revan set out to face in the Outer Rim after defeating Darth Malak and destroying the Star Forge?

LucasArts creative director Clint Hocking, whom you may remember from such Ubisoft titles as Splinter Cell and Far Cry 2, recently tweeted that the company is hiring a gameplay engineer for an “open-world RPG.” Could this be the long anticipated KOTOR revival?”

Thanks to our forum moderator spartan64, for the link!

In other news Spark Unlimited has been posting some more questions and answers, but unfortunately, not many of them our giving us too many answers.

QUESTION: are you able to inform us who the publisher is of the unanounced project? – Jacob

ANSWER: To disclose the publisher would be tantamount to revealing the game. Since the publisher (who controls all sales and marketing information) wants to manage “the reveal”, they will also remain “unannounced” at this time.

Hey Battlefrontians, I apologize for the lack of updates lately as I just got married a week ago so things have been extremely crazy around here. I am back from our honeymoon now though and ready to report!

During the latest E3 there were a lot of people who were extremely confident that LucasArts will be announcing Battlefront 3 at this years E3 and well, they just might be.

According to a post on StarWars.com, LucasArts will be “unveiling an exciting announcement”.. could this be Battlefront 3??

10:00-11:00 AM Kinect Star Wars Panel
Enter the Galaxy with studio head Jorg Neumann (Kinect Publishing) and lead producer Craig Derrick (LucasArts) as they discuss the highly anticipated title with USA Today’s Mike Snider, sharing new game play from the iconic Star Wars universe, revealing an all-new mode, and unveiling an exciting announcement. All attendees will receive a limited-edition poster. Room 32AB

Of course this announcement could very well be something to do with the Kinect Star Wars game, but you never know!

Let’s hear your thoughts!

Comic-Con 2011 takes place July 20-24th in San Diego.

A big thanks to our forum member Spartan64 for the heads up.

Well, another flicker of hope can come into our eyes as Gamasutra announces that Lucasarts has nabbed Tomb Raider creative and franchise director Tim Longo. Obviously the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is Battlefront 3, well at least it’s the first thing that comes to my mind!

In other news a lot of people are still thinking that Spark Unlimited will be responsible for Battlefront 3, and in my opinion, it’s definitely a possibility. Spark has recently updated their website as well with a countdown to this years comic con… hmmm?

Let’s hope!

Some of the games Tim Longo has worked on includes: Tomb Raider (The New AAA Reboot), Tomb Raider Anniversary (Wii Edition), Star Wars: Republic Commando, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars: Starfighter, Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine,
Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, Outlaws, Star Wars: Jedi Knight, Star Wars: Dark Forces (PS1).

Courtesty of Gamasutra (thanks to Ed for the heads up!)

LucasArts told Gamasutra on Friday that it hired on Crystal Dynamics’ former Tomb Raider creative and franchise director Tim Longo as creative director on an unannounced project.

It’s not the first time that Longo has worked with LucasArts. He previously worked on LucasArts-published titles including Star Wars: Starfighter and Jedi Starfighter as lead designer, and was creative director on Star Wars: Republic Commando.

Longo even has a LucasArts credit as a playtester on the original X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter from the late 1990s. A LucasArts rep said in a statement that the company is “thrilled to welcome him back to the LucasArts family.”

Longo’s most recent Tomb Raider credits were on Tomb Raider: Underworld and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Anniversary.

His former employer Crystal Dynamics is currently at work on a new Tomb Raider game, intended to revitalize and reboot the 15-year-old franchise

Let hear your thoughts!

I know, I know.. finally a post right? Sorry folks, but there hasn’t been a drop of anything to really post about lately. I was thinking about adding in some general Star Wars news or general Star Wars gaming news, what would everyone think about that?

Thanks to ‘persiana’ (from the LucasArts forums) for the heads up, some new information regarding Crytek UK (formally Free Radical) has surfaced. Apparently, they will be announcing something big com this years E3, which will take place June 7-9, 2011 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

I am presuming this will most like be Timesplitters 4 but one never knows! According to vg247.com:

Speaking to Develop, Yerli said it had “ambitious plans” for the TimeSplitter developer that was once known as Free Radical.

“I think at E3 this year – or just after – we are going to make a big announcement that I think people will be happy about,” he said.

“They were very pleased with their contribution to Crysis 2 [Note: Crytek UK made the multiplayer component - JC], and we have very ambitious plans for Crytek UK. The studio is now up to 85 people, with nice new offices. The main thing is that the team are having a lot of fun – that’s the most important thing to us.”

Yerli added the “UK scene” would be “very pleased” with what Crytek UK was working on.

Crytek UK has said in the past it’ll start work on either a new IP or TimeSplitters 4, a project the studio worked on previously as Free Radical.

It could very well be Battlefront 3 as Free Radical was working on both Battlefront 3 and Timesplitters 4 before they shut down.

Opinions?

So, over the last few weeks I’ve been noticing a lot of rumors popping up that something about Battlefront 3 will be in February’s edition of Game Informer magazine. Also, a member in our forums (PANIC98) has posted the following:

“I’ve been told by my reliable source, that info on BF3 will be in a major gaming magazine.”

Now that can’t be confirmed but it does help support the rumors that have been floating around. Another forum member of ours (Joelfigbars) has offered his opinion to help deconstruct what may be happening:

“When PANIC said that his friend said that Battlefront 3 info would be in a “major gaming magazine” I flipped through the Elder Scrolls issue for any teases to whats next month cover story. In an article for the Top 50 games of the year there is a section for top ten dissapointments. At number nine is Lucasarts. The section says this exactly.

“LucasArts has two film franchises just screaming to be triple-A gaming blockbusters in Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but the Force is no longer strong with this publisher. The studio suffered layoffs in September and the departure of veteran project lead Haden Blackman. Later, it handed over Star Wars: The Old Republic to EA. Where’s our Star Wars: Battlefront update? Why hasn’t LucasArts delivered the Indiana Jones game we deserve? Most importantly, what’s going on over at LucasArts”

Now this is the closet thing I found to a tease of anything in the whole magazine. They always tease their next cover story. Like last issue and a whole article on the History of the elder scrolls or the one before that one which was a whole two page spread of a boat with the words a survivor will rise, which ended up being the Tomb Raider reboot. This month in an article online of “what you guys would like to see in 2011″ Star Wars battlefront 3 came up the most. They have always stated their interest in seeing a new Battlefront.bSo my question is if thats the closest could it mean that the next issue is Battlefront 3. Well we could find out around February

This again, helps raise some hope and I hope that Game Informer comes through for us with some information on Battlefront 3!

Thoughts?

First of all, happy new year! I know there hasn’t been a post in awhile and lot of people have been emailing asking me to make a post, but when there’s nothing to post about, there’s nothing to post about. All in all there hasn’t been any recent news or rumors worth posting about.

The latest rumors in the rumor-mill are ones we really already know about, like the following:

- Spark Unlimited is developing Battlefront 3

This is still a possibility but I am very skeptical. People have sending emails left and right to Spark and they keep saying the same thing, “We can’t tell you”, although some have said that they came right out and told them that they are the developers… which of course can easily be fabricated.

One person even went the extreme and signed up on our forums, made one post stating that he is the “designer” of Battlefront 3 and posted some newbie photoshopped screenshots, then disappeared.

Hmmm.. that’s a little fishy…

- They will announce or show a demo on the new Blu-Ray set of Star Wars coming this September 2011

Again, this could be a possibility. As our forum members pointed out, Battlefront 1 was released the same day as the Star Wars Trilogy DVD set on September 20, 2004. Battlefront 2 was released the same day as Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith on November 1, 2005. (thanks laticspieman & iceytoa1).

- E3 2011

If I had to pick any of these, this be the one that I go with. LucasArts has already been confirmed to attending E3 so lets hope!

E3 begins June 7th through June 9th 2011, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Opinions please!
