Battlefront 3 Updates via Tuggie

Hey Battlefrontians.. our new partner Tuggie from GloomWalkers.com has made a great new video update on a few Battlefront 3 tidbits. He touches base on the GameSpy servers as well as the fact Sparks new game is probably past their “Alpha” testing phase.

After a few tweets with Spark, it’s apparent the game is passed the Alpha state in terms of the development cycle. Spark commented that the game is undergoing constant testing by a team, meaning that there is a build that is playable. This is good news in terms of the sooner we get to see the game, but this is usually where the most pain goes into development, in terms of regression testing goes. Simply put, their game is probably at the point or past the point that Free Radical’s was when the footage for Battlefront 3 was filmed. This is all just a guess, only based on some loose information provided by Spark.

Also a forum member from GloomWalker.com’s Forums has been tracking a Spark employee’s blog and it seems they have posted a few screens of *possibly* one of Sparks new games. Some of the photos could possibly be Battlefront 3, but I have my doubts.. You can check out the photos via the links from this post on the Gloom Walkers forums -> here.

Thoughts and opinions? As Tuggie says, don’t give up hope! Until LucasArts comes right out and says, “No Battlefront 3 for you!” .. I will always have hope! as should you!

Spark Unlimited – Public Disclosure Expected Sometime in 2012

Hey Battlefrontians.. I know that it has been awhile since my last post, but there just hasn’t been a whole lot worth while to report on.

The Video Game Awards have come and gone once again… and again, we are disappointed that no news for Battlefront 3 has been released or hinted upon. A few new developments from Spark Unlimited have been posted including a recent announcement that states the following:

We are in FULL PRODUCTION of a high-profile, popular game property for a major publishing partner. With the public disclosure expected sometime in 2012, we are looking for innovative and creative professionals to bring to life a Triple-A game for an awaiting, highly critical audience. Employing agile techniques (SCRUM) we are developing this product utilizing our experiences with the Unreal engine.

This is, of course what we hope will be announced as Battlefront 3!.. and the description seems to match up with the credentials that Battlefront 3 would need. I wonder when “sometime in 2012″ will be…. ugh..

As it turns out as well, Spark is currently working on two unannounced projects. The other, which pre-production started in November states:

We started PRE-PRODUCTION in November 2011 to develop a Triple-A Combat Adventure for a world-wide publisher. We are looking for innovative professionals to be members of a core creative team to bring to the console and PC markets the vision of an accomplished game director.

Other than that, there hasn’t been a any new developments.. at least that I’ve heard of..

All Quiet on the Battlefront… 3.. Some Hopeful Insight!

So, not much has been happening in the last few weeks.. in fact.. it’s been extremely quiet. Spark Unlimited have set up a question and answer section on the bottom of their website, but unfortunately, they are still not providing any insight into their super “secret” game. Their latest question answer being:

QUESTION: Hi, I would like to ask if the game your developing is the long waited Star Wars: Battlefront 3 or if it has anything to do with Lucasarts. I heard from other people that you just said that they had to take that with Lucasarts but, it is next to impossible to contact Lucasarts. No matter what game you guys are doing, it is in my beliefs that you will make a great job -Jakob

ANSWER: We are the solely the developer of games. The publisher controls said properties. All announcements, information and/or materials must come from or coordinated through the publisher. If you want word on Battlefront, you need to contact LucasArts.

At this time, we are prohibited from talking about who we are working with or working on either through affirmation or processes of elimination. So, I can neither confirm nor deny what we are working on or whom we are working with.

Which of course, is something that we already knew…

Our good friend Rainz has also sent in his insight and offers up some great points.

As you know, on Spark Unlimited’s website, they had an unannounced project presumed to be Battlefront 3, “with the public disclosure of the title still months away”. And that particular bit of info was posted on the website in January.

As we are now in August, many of us were confused about when this “unannounced” project would finally be shown to the public. It was not announced at E3 or at Comic-Con. Now many of us have possible ideas about when Spark would reveal it’s title: When the Blu-Ray collection of Star Wars is released on September 16th, or during Spike VGA’s in December, or even at next years E3! While those dates may or may not be accurate ideas, I’ve come up with another.

LucasArts has had two anticipated titles, Star Wars Kinect and The Old Republic, in the spotlight during their past showings at events, with both games having a suggested release date of the 2011 Holiday season, Kinect with a suggested Christmas release, and The Old Republic with a late November release.

When Spark Unlimited was asked about the release date for their title, they replied with this “The release date is solely at the publisher’s discretion. It is subject to change and has changed. It is still months away until it isn’t.”

My opinion is that LucasArts will hold back on announcing future titles until these two games are released. It would feel out of place to announce a new project in the middle of all the hype. My best guess is they will probably announce it about 5-6 months after these two games are released when all the excitement surrounding Kinect and Republic has died down.

I would have to agree that LucasArts will be more reluctant to bring out another huge title like Battlefront 3 while being in the middle of The Old Republic and Star Wars: Kinect.

Lets hear some opinions! Lets get some faith and hope rolling again Battlefrontians!

Still No Battlefront 3… Your Comic-Con Opinion?

Well Battlefrontians.. another major event.. another major disappointment. At this point, I know that a lot of people are really starting to get frusterated and give up hope… but I am not. Until Lucasarts directly comes out and says that they are not making Battlefront 3, I will always have hope.

The “exciting” announcement from Lucasarts at Comic Con.. well.. wasn’t so exciting in my opinion. It’s pretty cool, but it’s not really what I had in mind.

Our good friend Rainz also chimed in with some words of disappointment.

“Rainz here with some sad news,

Well, our hopes of LucasArts announcing BattleFront 3 at Comic-Con were shattered today. At the LucasArts panel, they revealed new information on their Star Wars Kinect title (Lightsaber functions, podracing etc.) They also hinted a realease date for this Chrtistmas. Now that was to be expected, but I held my breath waiting for the “Suprising announcement” to be shown as Battlefront 3, but no, they told attendees they were going to be bundling the game, Kinect, and XBOX together. Needless to say, I was devastated.

Now it only looks like any chance of BF3 getting announced is when the Blu-Ray is released, or when the 3D remakes of the original trilogy hit theatres. But for now, all we can do is wait.

People are still saying that Spark Unlimited will be revealing their secret unannounced game in the near future and they are still convinced that it is Battlefront 3. At least we still have some hope!

E3: 2011 – No Battlefront 3 .. Comic Con?

E3 is starting to pretty well wrap up for the year and it looks like we will have to wait, yet again for an annoucement for Battlefront 3. I know originally a lot of you have said that you’re pretty sure that it will be announced at this years Comic Con, so this will definitely be our new hope!

The two “Super Secret Sequels” that were announced to at E3 were, “Far Cry 3″ and “Final Fantasy XIII-2″… slightly disappointing.

Although we won’t be getting Battlefront 3, E3 wasn’t a total bust… the new Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, looks absolutely amazing! and Battlefield 3 was another game that I’ll be interested in getting my hands on, it looks pretty stunning.

Our good friend Rainz has also chimed in last night with his thoughts on this years E3:

Well, Day 2 of E3 in Los Angeles has confirmed that Crytek UK is NOT working on Battlefront 3 OR TimeSplitters 4. Back when the company announced they would be unveiling a “big surprise” at E3, everyone believed they be working on either of those two games. But at Crytek’s press conference, they unveiling a new game called Ryse, set in Roman times. And to make it worse, it’s ANOTHER STUPID KINECT GAME!!!!

With Crytek’s unfortunate announcement, all hope now lies with Spark Unlimited, whom I think will either announce BattleFront 3 as one of the “Super Secret Surprises” mentioned in Wednesday’s schedule, or at Comic-Con next month.

The San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 21st to the 24th, at the San Diego Convention Center.

I may have missed something from E3 as I wasn’t able to catch all of it due to work, so feel free to fill me in on any details!

E3 2011 – 2 “Super Secret Sequels” could be Battlefront 3

With E3 2011 coming about in just 4 days, we are still uncertain what LucasArts will be announcing. Legion 2.5 (thanks!), one of our loyal forum members has also come across a list from IGN.com that states there will be 2, “Super Secret Sequels”.. now that’s interesting. I’m sure that everyone has their own theories on what these could be and I’d like to hear them!

We also know for sure that EA will be revealing Star Wars: The Old Republic, which in my opinion does look pretty cool, even though I was pulling for a Knights of the Old Republic 3! and we also know that Star Wars: Kinect will be surfacing at E3 at some point.

Some info on Star Wars Kinect:

Microsoft will finally reveal the Star Wars Kinect game everyone’s been waiting for since its reveal last year.

According to Spike TV’s Geoff Keighley, however, Microsoft plans to show it off at its E3 press conference on June 6. Posting on Twitter (spotted by Game Informer), he said: “Yes, Star Wars for Kinect will officially be unveiled live during the Xbox 360 E3 briefing on Spike. Tune in on June 6 for more.”

E3 Update: No Battlefront 3 so far

Hey fellow BF3′ers, I apologize for the lack of updates lately but there really hasn’t been anything to report. Even the rumor roundup contains old rumors that everyone has already heard, so I figured I would postpone until something else came up.

With E3 quickly creeping up on us, our pal Rainz has sent in some rather unfortunate news:

IGN recently posted on their website a list of all games that had been confirmed by publishers or developers to appear at E3 this year, and unfortunately no games were shown to be confirmed by LucasArts, Spark Unlimited, or Epic Games. The only Star Wars game that is confirmed to be showing at E3 so far is Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Here’s what IGN says on its post, and I quote:

“The Electronic Entertainment Expo(You all might know it as E3) is only a few weeks away. Things kick off June 6th with a flurry of press conferences.”

“IGN’s E3 Big Games List compiles all the titles confirmed by publishers or developers. There are plenty more games we know or expect–this list isn’t for those. These are the things which have been promised publicly or told to us on record. Check the list. Come back to it often.”

Based on the info shown at the time(The list was updated today) the only way we will see Battlefront 3 at E3 is if it’s confirmed it will be shown at the event at the last minute, or LucasArts decides to sneak in to E3 and surprise us. Will they? I guess we can only find out in 14 days.

A big thanks to Rainz for the update! It will be interesting to see if Lucasarts decides to bring out any surprises for us.

LucasArts Signs with Epic Games for Unreal Engine 3

Some pretty good and significant news today as LucasArts and Epic Games shake hands on a lengthy multi-year agreement to use their, “Unreal Engine 3″ as an arsenal for, “multiple projects”. We still have no idea on which games will be developed using this engine, but obviously our Battlefront 3 should be at the top of their list.

I’ve also noticed that Republic Commando 2 has been popping up rumors over the last few months which could be a big contender for this engine as Republic Commando has used the Unreal Engine.

A little bit of information on the Unreal Engine 3:

Unreal Engine 3 (UE3) is a computer game engine developed by Epic Games. It is the third generation of Unreal Engine, designed for DirectX 9/10/11 PCs, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, and OpenGL-based OS (Mac OS X, iOS). Its renderer supports many advanced techniques including HDRR, per-pixel lighting, and dynamic shadows, and builds upon the tools available in previous versions of the engine.

Epic has used this version of the engine for their in-house games Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War, and an improved version for Gears of War 2. Due to aggressive licensing, this current iteration has garnered a great deal of support from several big licensees, including Atari, Activision, Capcom, Disney, Konami, Koei, 2K Games, Midway Games, THQ, Ubisoft, Sega, Sony, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, 3D Realms, and more.

My Response From Spark Unlimited + VGA’s Outcome

Well folks, there’s not much I can really say about the outcome of the VGA’s this year. A lot of people seemed pretty confident that they would finally be announcing Battlefront 3, and naturally we were all disappointed yet again (although I was happy to hear about the new Elder Scrolls game).

Spark Unlimited has been the big focus the last week or so as well, with multiple theories and even one person, “confirming” on his own that they are the developers. I decided that I would send off an email of my own to Spark Unlimited and I received an email back from one of their Chief Technology Officers.

Now, while I didn’t receive back a confirmation email, he didn’t deny the fact either. You can interpret his response in any way you see fit, I’m taking it as a good thing and not giving up hope.

Here’s what he had to say:

“Everyone keeps asking. Unfortunately, our NDA’s (non-disclosure agreement) with publishers prevents us from talking about the products we work on. It’s is up the publisher and their marketing/PR engine to determine what information is given out and when. Word on that game really has to come straight from Lucas Arts. You do have to realize that publishers have a plan – be it good or bad – to release information. These days a publisher will typically wait to after the holidays to announce a game. They don’t want to cannibalize their holiday sales. So, it if it going to be announced, I would it will be during the announcement season of March through June.”

Imperial Academy and Spike VGA Awards…

Still we wait for some news or conformation of Battlefront 3.. The Spike VGA Awards 2010 are approaching rapidly and this has stirred up quite a bit of hope! I remember watching them last year with tons of hope for a Battlefront 3 announcement and I will eagerly do the same this year.

There hasn’t been a whole lot of information on this years upcoming Spike Video Game Awards but according to a tweet by Geoff Keighley (host of Spike TV’s GTTV) there will be some pretty exciting announcements!

“VGA rumors continue. We’ll share two world premiere announcements on Wednesday with many more to come over the next 4 weeks.”

The 2010 Awards will be held Saturday, December 11th in Los Angeles, CA at the L.A. Convention Center.
