Battlefront: Elite Squadron reviews pour in – Not that great

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron was released around the world yesterday for the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS and the reviews have began to pour in and frankly they don’t sound too great. I have yet to pick up my copy for the DS so I can personally vouch for these reviews.

The first review is courtesy of GameInformer.com and they gave the game 6.75 out of 10:

Concept:Take the Battlefront formula and shrink it down onto the PSP…again…and throw a half-cooked story on top

Graphics:Those who thought Battlefront II looked good on the PSP should have nothing to complain about here, unless they also believe that graphics should improve over time

Sound:From the authentic Star Wars soundtrack to the recognizable blaster fire, everything sounds familiar

Playability:I hate to shaft a game for a system’s button layout, but the PSP wasn’t built for shooters and Elite Squadron doesn’t do enough to adapt itself to the PSP controls

Entertainment:I might have found the offline combat more challenging if the AI didn’t walk in circles like a group of blaster-strapped Roombas

Replay:Moderate

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron PSP Demo now available

This is some good news for some. According to a recent post made by the official Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron Facebook page, the Battlefront Elite Squadron demo for the PSP and the PSPgo are now available for download on the Playstation network.

According to some of the comments, I guess the demo is quite fun and enjoyable, but a lot of people are wondering about the Nintendo DS version of Elite Squadron and naturally, everyone is saying put it onto the xBox360 and Playstation.

If any other information surfaces on this i’ll be updating this post so stay tuned!

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron PSP Debut Trailer.

A great debut trailer for the PSP of the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron has finally surfaced online with only a few more weeks before it’s release (November 3rd). The trailer looks pretty good, but in the entire 30 seconds, they don’t actually show any gameplay, which was kind of disappointing.

Anyway check it out below and let me know what you think.

Here is a couple excerps from Kotaku’s take on Battlefront: Elite Squadron.

“I’m glad Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron’s space-to-ground transitions made it into the multiplayer –- there was some initial confusion about whether or not the PSP Infrastructure could handle it.

But the final answer is yes. Yes, Elite Squadron can handle all 16 players leaping from space combat to ground battles and back again almost at once. Yes, it can get hectic and confusing. And yes, you will totally love it.

What Needs Improvement?
Hey! I Didn’t Want To Go Planetside! If you’re flying a spacecraft, the game sometimes takes liberties with your locations. For example, you can hop in an X-Wing on the ground and try to jet up to space by flying skyward and pressing up on the D-pad – but the game doesn’t think you should be up there quite yet and so it either doesn’t send you right away, or it doesn’t send you at all. This same thing happens in the space-side of levels as well, which gets really annoying if you’re flying close to the planet while trying to shoot somebody and the game decides to send you planetside even though you didn’t press the D-pad

What Should Stay The Same?
Space Combat: Loved it. Loved it so much, I actually started to avoid going planetside.

It’s What Multiplayer Was Meant To Be: If you’ve ever gotten together a bunch of gamers to take a crack at any multiplayer mode, you know when things are going well. People enjoy themselves and really get into the rivalries. When a big event happens – like a command ship exploding – there’s a cry from the victim team and a cheer from the aggressor team. When somebody morphs into a Jedi at a random point in battle (depending on how well you’re doing), there are squawks of disbelief to see a lightsaber on the field. And when the match ends, there’s a collective groan because it felt like it ended too soon.

Final Thoughts
I’m buying it. I really hope my PSP-owning friends do, too, so I can gun them down in space”

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron – DS Trailer

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates, there hasn’t really been anything to report as of lately and I have been on vacation for the last week or so.. but finally there are a couple updates for you including the official Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron – DS Trailer..

My review of the trailer is that it actually looks pretty decent and yes, I will be picking it up for my DS. I am looking forward to seeing the trailer for the PSP as well. Let me know your opinions on the trailer as well, i’m curious as to what everyone thinks.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron – Behinds The Scenes Featurette

A new webdoc has been posted online at the official Elite Squadron website. Basically the webdoc takes you behinds the scenes and explains how with Battlefront Elite Squadron, you are not only playing the game on the ground but you can also take the gameplay to space. This is very cool because if you decide to go to the space battle, what you do up there will also effect, what happens with the ground battle.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron is expected out November 3, 2009.

Elite Squadron Interview & Questionairre + Where is Battlefront 3?

Soooo…. After the big announcement for Lucidity, there has been a lot of complaining that it wasn’t Battlefront 3. I know it kind of stinks that they are keeping this secret, but what can we do? I mean in my opinion, they would be silly not to develop the game, there is too much demand for it. I feel that it will be released some day, most likely next year or the year after. It wouldn’t be worth their while to put out such a big title right now with The Old Republic on it’s way as well as Republic Heroes.

All i’m asking is to have faith my fellow Jedi’s and Sith. As some people have pointed out, in the Gametrailers interview with LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez, kept dodging the question of a next generation console Battlefront. Also in a Elite Squadron questionnaire from TheForce.net they managed to squeak in the following question:

“Last but not least, (and in the �Had to Try� category) the last 2 editions of Star Wars Battlefront have been exclusive to handheld platforms. Do you think handhelds will be the preferred future medium for the Battlefront franchise or can we hope to see a console version again sometime in the future?

The Battlefront team is very proud of the work we have done. It was no small feat getting so much game into both platforms! Both Elite Squadron developers Rebellion (PSP) and nSpace (DS) pulled out all the stops to make sure they delivered a game that would move the Battlefront experience forward. This would not have been possible without one fundamental thing that we share with the fans. We love Star Wars! Enjoy the games!”

Again they seem to dodge the question. Definitely interesting.

Battlefront: Elite Squadron – Gamescon Interview + DS Footage

A great interview from Gamescon 2009 has been posted by G4tv.com. Basically the interview talks about how it all got started with the original Battlefront and then moving on to Battlefront 2. Then how they released Renegade Squadron exclusively for the PSP which added character customization to Battlefront. For Elite Squadron they say that they’re taking all the features from those 3 games and incorporating them all into Elite Squadron.

Sounds like it’s going to be pretty cool. The battle scenes look pretty decent, I like how you can go from on the ground into space. Sweet!

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron Hands On Gameplay Video

Finally! We can get a peak at the game play of Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron! I came across this video on Youtube which was published by a website called, “GameHeadsOnline.com“. They also made a comparison to the Elite Squadron game play video to the leaked Battlefront 3 footage that was leaked a long time ago and well to me, they look quite similar. I’ll post both videos here as well so you can judge for yourselves.

I have enabled comments again just to see what everyone thinks.

The gameplay actually looks pretty good overall and i’ll definitely be picking up a copy myself!

Battlefront: Elite Squadron New Screenshots + Preview

Some new screenshots of Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron have been leaked. We are still waiting on some more information about the game as well as a trailer. Hopefully we’ll get something soon as the game is due out on October 3rd.

Battlefront is set to make a return to the PSP this year, featuring multiple-level battlefields and an all-new Story mode.

The Star Wars Battlefront series has found a natural home on the PSP, with two games having been released on the system and a third one set for release in November. We managed to grab a look at the latest game, subtitled Elite Squadron, at this year’s GamesCom convention.

The headline feature of the new game is battles that occur on multiple levels. On the Hoth level we were shown, you can do battle both on the planet surface and the space above it. It’s an interesting concept because you can jump in an X-Wing on the ground and then fly up into space to go dogfighting or even dock with a space cruiser. There are also weapons on the ground that you can use to take out the huge battleships orbiting overhead, such as the antiorbital ion cannon on the Hoth surface.

All 12 of the maps in Elite Squadron have ground and space levels like this, with battles on both the ground and in space happening simultaneously. Like its predecessor, you can play with up to 15 other people online and up to five other people over a local wireless connection. Playing through the game will unlock new character customisations and vehicle decals, meaning if you get into an AT-AT, it will be emblazoned with your own personal logo.

Elite Squadron also has an original story–something that was always missing from this predominantly multiplayer series. The narrative will span the entire Star Wars film saga and a little bit beyond, as you control X2, an Imperial trooper cloned from a Jedi master who defects to the Rebellion.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron is shaping up well, and it’s good to see that this series has flourished on a handheld console. Speaking of which, it’s also coming to the DS this year, and you can expect both games to arrive before the end of the year.”

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron – Release Date October 3rd?

Looks like we may have a quick peak at the release date of Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron. According to GameStop.com, Battlefront: Elite Squadron is available for pre-order now and well as a “street date guarantee”. Amazon.com is reporting a release date of October 3rd as well.

“Pre-order Star Wars Batllefront: Elite Squdron by November 2nd at 11am CST with overnight shipping and get guaranteed delivery on the street date of November 3rd! If your product does not arrive on the street date, we will fully refund your shipping charge.”

I am surprised actually because on Elite Squadrons official page, they hardly have any information about the game available. In fact, they do not even have the trailer up yet! I find this very odd, considering the game is due out in a few months. Naturally many people are speculating that they are somehow using this game as a type of “shield” to hide the fact that they are really working on Battlefront 3. I highly doubt that but you never know.
